Three HB Grads Hit the Board on Preakness Day!
5/15/2010
Led by Preakness-G1 contender Yawanna Twist, three runners who were foaled, raised, sold, purchased or raced by Hidden Brook hit the board in major stakes on Preakness Day.
Yawanna Twist (shown here as a yearling) ran fourth in the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, just 1 3/4 lengths behind victorious Lookin At Lucky. In tight quarters early, Yawanna Twist rallied strongly under Edgar Prado and finished with good energy, 4 lengths clear of the fifth place horse. Trained by Rick Dutrow, he has a record of 5-2-2-0-1 and $255,600, racing for his breeder Steel Your Face Stables. The New York-bred colt was raised by Hidden Brook.
Earlier on the card at Pimlico, Hidden Brook Racing experienced the thrill of almost victory and the agony of defeat, when multiple Graded stakes filly Quiet Meadow was passed in the shadow of the wire of the $100,000 Gallorette S.-G3 by Champion mare Rainbow View. Quiet Meadow burst to the lead with an eighth of a mile to go and battled gamely to earn the place. The 5-year-old stakes winner by El Prado races for a Hidden Brook partnership, which includes HRTV executive Dan Zucker.
And at Churchill Downs, stakes-winning 3-year-old Cool Bullet put in another brilliant performance, running second by 3/4 in the $108,000 Matt Winn S. A stakes winner by daylight on Polytrack at 6 furlongs March 27th, Cool Bullet grabbed the lead at the eighth pole in this 7-furlong dirt event, but went down to a narrow defeat in the final sixteenth. Bred by Adena Springs, he was sold by Hidden Brook at the 2008 Keeneland September Sale, and purchased by Mike Recio. Recio's father Bill broke the colt, who now races for Winmore LLC & Robert & Lawana Low.
