Lady of the Desert 3/4 Back in G1 French Guineas
5/17/2010
Group 1 filly Lady of the Desert finished some 3/4 of a length behind the winner despite losing a shoe and being severely bothered in the stretch drive of the Classic French One Thousand Guineas-G1 at Longchamp on May 16th.
Lady of the Desert was foaled and raised at Hidden Brook for owner/breeder Rabbah Bloodstock, and is the eighth Classic competitor of 2010 from our Farm or Sales programs.
Making just her second start of the season, Lady of the Desert was making a strong move for the lead when she was crowded and pinched by eventual first-place finisher Liliside (Fr). Rider Kieren Fallon, wearing Jaber Abdullah's blue and white silks, had to check sharply and rise in the saddle, losing all chance just shy of the wire (see photo at right). Liliside was disqualified by the stewards, and officially placed behind Lady of the Desert.
A daughter of Rahy out of Champion Queen's Logic, Lady of the Desert was named a TDN Rising Star after breaking her maiden by 5 lengths in her racetrack debut last May 26. She then reeled off victories in the Princess Margaret S.-G3 and Lowther S.-G2, before running third in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes last October at Newmarket. In her first start of 2010, she ran third in the Dubai Duty Free Fred Darling S.-G3. She is expected to start next in the Group 1 Coronation S. at Royal Ascot on June 18th.
