Millionaire Musket Man Just Misses in Met Mile-G1
6/1/2010
Multiple Grade I millionaire MUSKET MAN laid his heart on the line once again, running a close second to Quality Road, the best older horse in training, in the $500,000 Metropolitan H.-G1 Memorial weekend.
In the colors of owners Eric Fein and Vic Carlson, Musket Man charged gamely from the outside under Ramon Dominguez, but fell 1 1/2 lengths shy at the wire. Winning time of 1:33.11 is the second fastest Met Mile in history.
A son of Yonaguska out of Fortuesque, Musket Man was foaled and raised at Hidden Brook for breeders Jim E. Nelson and Sergio De Sousa, and sold at the 2007 Keenerland September Sale. The multiple Graded stakes winner has made 10 consecutive starts in stakes, winning or placing every time, including the Kentucky Derby-G1, Preakness-G1, Carter H.-G1, Met Mile-G1, Illinois Derby-G2, and Churchill Downs S.-G2. He sports a record of 12-6-2-4, and earnings of $1,100,570.
