Wednesday, September 5, 2018

Cowgirls Like Us won her second straight stakes of the Retama Park meet on September 4 when she battled for a three-quarter-length win over Silvercents in the off-the-turf La Senorita Stakes. The race was one of two stakes on the card. Shotsoft drew off to a 5 1/4-length win over Mucho Dinero in the $75,000 El Joven.

The juvenile filly is a daughter of My Golden Song who races for her breeder, Doug Scharbauer. She was foaled and raised at Hidden Brook Farm.

The $75,000 La Senorita and El Joven were for 2-year-olds at a mile. The races were scheduled for turf, but were run on a sloppy, sealed main track. The stakes are the marquee races of the Retama meet, which ends Wednesday night.

Cowgirls Like Us came into the La Senorita off a win in a $65,000 division of the Texas Stallion Stakes last month at Retama. She stalked the pace in the La Senorita, racing off fractions of 24.73 seconds for the opening quarter, 49.16 for the half-mile and 1:14.11 for six furlongs. Cowgirls Like Us moved to the lead in the stretch and covered the distance in 1:39.93.
